CARRIAGEWAY DRAINAGE / RESURFACING WORK – A359, WANSTROW

CARRIAGEWAY DRAINAGE / RESURFACING WORK – A359, WANSTROW.

PREP WORKS – 19/07/2021 – 23/07/2021

RESURFACING – 26/07/2021 – 30/07/2021

I am writing to inform you of our forthcoming carriageway resurfacing work upon the A359, Wanstrow. Somerset County Council, as the Highway Authority, have a statutory duty under S41 of the Highways Act 1980 to repair and maintain the highway “in such a state as to be safe and fit for ordinary traffic”.

The road is to be resurfaced to restore its’ profile, protect the underlying road foundation and restore its skidding resistance.

The process involves the use of a large planing machine to remove the old surface to a depth up to 100mm. This is followed by the laying of new material by a surfacing machine known as a paver. There may be a period between the two operations when it will be necessary for traffic to run upon a temporary surface. During both live operations it will be difficult or impossible for vehicles to pass the machinery.

Due to the width of the road and for the safety of the workforce it will be necessary to close the A359 to all vehicular through traffic during the works. An alternative route will be signed. Pedestrian access will be maintained. The works are currently programmed to commence on 19th July 2021 for 10days excluding weekends. During these works, we would request that no vehicles are parked on the road. Access to properties within the site and essential deliveries may be accommodated by liaison with the foreman on site.

Any change to the start date or duration of works will be indicated on the advisory signs located on site.

We will endeavour to complete the works as quickly as possible and to achieve this we would ask for co-operation and understanding from the public. Hopefully, by working together, we can successfully overcome any difficulties that may occur.

If you require any further information prior to the works taking place please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Contact Centre 0300 123 2224 who will ensure the details are forwarded to the appropriate officer for action.
